Easter day for serious

You've seen the Easter photos, but here is what really happened on Easter.  Cause' a 5 month old ain't have no Easter egg hunt...specially' when it's raining.

You may have noticed, sometimes I write things (like the sentence above) that I would actually say, because sometimes I like to throw all rules of grammar out in the yard.  Imagine me saying the sentence above in my best thug voice.

My baby goes to daycare

5.25 months
22.5 weeks
159 days
3805 hours
228300 minutes

Count it however you want, Attison and I have spent every day of his life together.  Aside from night time, when I sleep with the ear on the monitor and one eye open, I haven't been away from him for more than 4 hours at a time.  (and that was once)

Today, Attison is at daycare.  Without his mom.  I'm at home.  Working.  Yes, I am kind of overreacting and freaking out a tidbit, but I'm going to roll with it.

When we first bought VBInspect.com, we knew that for many, many years, one of the benefits of accepting the job of secretary was that you could work from home.  Most of the previous secretaries have been stay at home mom's.  So naturally, when that time came, I would also work from home and be a mom.

What I didn't realize was being a "work from home mom" and being a "stay at home mom" are often different things. Also, working from home while your kids are at school is different than working from home with an infant child.

Life with baby is full.  It is exhausting, busy, exciting, fun, confusing... It is not easy.  Working with an infant has not proven to be manageable.  Especially as he moves and grabs and tries to eat.  Someday when he crawls, climbs and actually eats....even thinking about it makes me crazy, there will be no outside work being accomplished with Mr. Moving and shaking in the house.

So we've come up with a plan:

Monday- Steph, Attison and VBinspect.  Since we don't do inspections on the weekend, I shouldn't ever have to type reports on Monday.  Should be an easy day.

Tuesday -Attison is at daycare, Steph works

Wednesday and Thursday - Our friend and part time secretary Eileen answers phones and does any sort of report publishing, problem solving she needs to.  Eileen also has a baby who is 2 months younger than Attison.  We are kind of job sharing and have been since mid-March.  It seems to be working!  This leaves these two days for Attison and I to play, grocery shop, and be a SAHM.

Friday - Attison at daycare, Steph works

Our daycare provider is going to be our friend Melissa. Our friends Melissa and Zach had their baby at the Midwife center 11 days after we had Attison.  Melissa is starting a daycare so she can still work and be with Brynn.  It is a huge blessing to us that Melissa decided to peruse her own daycare and we didn't have to look far for someone to help us care for Attison.

This is the birth announcement board at the Midwife Center.  Attison and Brynn shared the board for a few days before more babies came to be announced!

So today I'm on my own for the first time.  I have a full day planned, but I'll be counting down the minutes until I go pick up my baby sweet potato and bring him home to blow raspberries on his belly.

In my crib and I'm awesome

Thanks for the dog, Uncle Michael!

Yes, seriously more sink time

Here he is, in the sink again!
This mirror allows us to see each other while I....um....you know.
And once again, he was having such a grand time, we went and got laundry.  I folded two baskets of laundry and sorted these diapers.  While Attison sat in the sink.

He also kicked the toothbrushes off the counter between the sink and the wall.  The roommates were quite confused when their toothbrushes came out of the dishwasher.

greens and butterflies

These are from March 21st.  Attison eats his butterfly while I prepare dinner.
I often debate whether or not I should share my inner monologue when I post these pictures.  I'm curious what your initial thoughts are when you see the picture below.  Please share in the comments.

I walked to Whole Foods, with the boy strapped snugly to my chest and bought broccoli and asparagus for dinner, to cook with the pepper and hot sausage I already had.  Win. The celery got garbagedisposaled (not placed in that shiny stainless steel composter you see sitting on the table, as you might have guessed).   Lose. The wall behind the island says "someone please, for the love of god, sand and paint me!"  We've since decided to tear that wall out, not sand and paint it, so in the mean time, welcome to our kitchen. : / End summation - Neutral feelings all around.

He likes it!

I swear I'm not a bad mom, he likes the sink.  He isn't particularly thrilled in these photos, but he wasn't crying.  He woke up from a nap unhappy (waking up is hard) and I was trying to get some work done.  Everything I put him in he screamed, except the sink.

Even Aunt Christine couldn't get him to smile. Sometimes, you just gotta be a fusspot.

Dear JTD,

Dear Jenny the dog,

Before I had Attison I told you I'd love you forever and always take care of you.  Well, that was stupid of me.  I mean naive   See, yesterday you were gone for like an hour an a half.  I didn't really notice.  I mean, I kind of noticed, but didn't really think too hard about it.  Even when that nice lady called my phone I ignored it.  Then she rang our doorbell, which happens to be disconnected.  I didn't see her text for 45 minutes.  Oops.  Good thing she let you in her house.

And about that.  Why didn't you tear out her dog's throat?  You just went and played in the park with them and then chilled at her house for a bit?  I kind of thought she found the wrong dog because she called you "a darling."  Jenny, I love you, but you aren't a darling.  You're fun.  You are energetic.  You're a blood thirsty, squirrel killing, small dog eating mongrel.  Since when can you occupy the same space as another animal and not try and kill it?     You even tried to kill Sojo and he's twice your size.  And our friend Mogley...he just wanted to play and be submissive, but that wasn't enough from you.

So we don't take you for enough walks.  I get that.  I'm sorry.  I've been trying to spoil you with treats and beef juice.  We went on vacation and kind of forgot about you.  The roommates took care of you!  They even bought you food when we ran out!  I know, I always leave you with them and not enough food.  My bad.  I'll try to do a better job of walking you more.  Maybe now that it is warm we can go for some runs together.  That sounds fun, right?

I thought you liked the back yard?  It is sunny!  We even let you bury your dinosaur bone there.  I know you've been playing with it, you come in with dirt on your nose all the time.  How the heck did you knock that fence panel completely down?  Tim thinks it was the drunken frat boyz next door, while they tried to fit 4 cars into a driveway for 1.  But I know it was you.  You become the incredible Hulk back there.  Until I actually went outside and looked around, I was sure you jumped the 4' high fence.  I know you can do it, we've talked about it before, I think you are just afraid.  You're right, maybe you will get hurt trying.

Anyway, I won't give you away.  Maybe what we all need is some time for you to run free through the neighborhood socializing with dog friends and chasing away bad guys.  Bad guys are afraid of you, because you are big and have sharp teeth.

Thanks for being nice to Attison.  You guys are really going to have fun some day.  I know sometimes you don't want him to pet you, but think about it this way - if he is close enough to pet you, you'll be able to smell all of his stinky smells.  You love stinky smells!  He has a bunch of them.  Pretty soon he'll be dropping food for you to eat!  Oh it is going to be great...if only we can get through the next year or so without you finding your way up to Negley Avenue during rush hour.

Love,

Mamma (Steph)
