Now Accepting Suggestions: Theme Songs

(Originally Drafted on Friday 11/16)

Well, I had originally started off this post with a Rod Stewart music video - Rod Stewart and Ron Wood doing a live performance of his song "every picture tells a story". But then after watching it (you can find it on youtube), I thought, "This [live] version  isn't really that good."
Then I thought, "you know... this song isn't really that good either."
I mean, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Rod Stewart, and I like a lot of his stuff ... but "every picture tells a story" just isn't one of my favorites.

Which is a shame, because the title of that song is an apt descriptor of our life right now, and our life right now could use a theme song.

[ I would affirm Steph's previous comment that although we have spent our whole lives singing along with hundreds of songs, and we now feel compelled to sing to the child, the only music we can think of is Rod Stewart, Leonard Cohen, and David Crowder. Poor kid. ]

So I have been thinking about a theme song. Changing a diaper the other day, I was reminded of Ween's live album, titled "Paintin' the Town Brown"
But... it's Ween. And I can't subject him to that. Or me for that matter.

We have been taking photographs of the boy like we are auditioning for the paparazzi.
So Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" came to mind.

Which comes with a 10 minute music video.
Which I watched.
While I was holding the boy so that Steph could get some sleep.
Because when she doesn't sleep (usually) she looks tired (noticably), so she wears sunglasses (extra large) which make her look like Lady Gaga (full circle).

And I came to the conclusion that the boy is not ready for Lady Gaga.
And neither am I.

So the hunt for a theme song continues.

And now... in honor of the holiday, Dad has been singing Arlo Guthrie's original Thanksgiving Day Massacre song (Alice's Restaurant) to the boy.

Oh well.
Suggestions welcome.

  1. So far the comments from the gallery:
Dennis: "You know, 'every picture tells a story' is my favorite Rod Stewart song."
Linda: [after watching the Paparazzi video] "well, if I never see another Lady Gaga video again, that would be too soon."

  2. this is hilarious!!!

I love a theme song - My dad used to sing Elton John's "Your Song" to my mom and when I was born he'd sing it to me. Now it is my favorite. My mom would sing Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" (works better for a girl maybe) and when I worked alone in the hospital's newborn nursery, I'd sing to all the babies the Beatles "Golden Slumbers" ... I hope you find the right song soon! (also your wife is one hot mama!)
